An acute water shortage has hit the Bunambutye resettlement camp in Bulambuli District.

This is after three of the boreholes in the area dried up. The camp houses close to 300 landslide victims who were relocated from Luseshe Sub County in Bududa District and Namisuni Sub County in Bulambuli District in August 2024.

Joseph Kutosi one of the leaders at the resettlement camp says that all the three boreholes government set up in the area have dried up. According to Kutosi, they now have to move for more than 10 kilometres to access water.

Peter Wapolo a resident of Kata Camp says that the water shortage has led to family conflicts, as women spend long hours away from home in search of water for domestic use.

Addressing the people at the resettlement camp, Bulambuli District Woman Member of Parliament, Sarah Wekomba pledged to follow up the matter with the relevant government officials. Wekomba expressed optimism that the government would address the matter. [ file photo ]
