UBOS will starting June 10, carry out a baseline education census of all pre-primary, primary, secondary, vocational schools and universities in greater Kampala and Eastern Uganda.

At a press briefing held at Mbale District Local Government Council offices on Thursday, Mbale Resident City Commissioner Asumin Nasike said that they encountered challenges of religious cults opposed to being enumerated in last years’ National Housing and Population Census but were able to overcome them. Nasike said that they will not tolerate any acts of sabotage by religious cults in the coming baseline education census.

Didacus Okoth the UBOS Principal Public Relations Officer says the census aims at generating data about all formal schools and institutions. Okoth says the baseline will also capture data of all learners and all teaching and non-teaching staff.

Cassim Namugali the Mbale City Mayor emphasized the importance of the education census saying that it will aid government in planning for the entire education sector since there will be official statistics.
