Authorities
at Sironko District Local Government are on the spot over funds meant to
rehabilitate and maintain roads.
During a monitoring exercise on Wednesday,
Budadiri West legislator Nathan Nandala Mafabi was shocked to find that the
Sironko District authorities had included the 8.9 km Bukhulo-Nalukuba road in
their report of roads allegedly worked on and yet he had personally funded the
maintenance works on the road.
The Bukhulo-Nalukuba road in Bukhulo Sub County
being listed among the roads maintained by the District authorities angered
Nandala. The Sironko District Assistant Engineer Nasusi Charles failed to
explain the anomaly.
Accompanied by the Sironko Chief Administrative
Officer, Nelson Kirenda, Sironko Resident District Commissioner Dennis Ephraim
Balwaniregha and all District Councilors, Nandala said the joint monitoring
exercise is to ensure that there is value for money. He said that exercise is
part of his oversight role as a legislator.
Sironko LCV Chairperson David Livingstone Giruli admitted challenges with the Engineering Department and promised to ensure improved delivery of services moving forward.
