Residents of Kikobero Sub-County and neighboring areas in Budadiri East Constituency, Sironko District, have abandoned Simu Pondo Health Centre III, citing the poor state of the roads to the facility.
The residents said this at a monitoring visit by
Sironko District leaders. Jane Nalyaka, one of the residents, blamed the
Sironko District leadership for failing to repair the roads leading to the
health facility. Nalyaka noted that the poor roads had discouraged many people
from seeking services at Simu Pondo Health Centre III. According to Nalyaka, it
is safer and more convenient to visit Muyembe Health Centre IV in Bulambuli
District as opposed to Simu Pondo Health Centre III where roads are in a
pathetic state.
Fred Nangoli, another resident, accused the
Sironko District authorities for failing to fulfill a promise to improve the
state of roads. Nangoli claimed that the last time a grader was in the area was
in 2006, something which has left the community neglected.
Budadiri East legislator Isaiah Sasaga said that
despite Simu Pondo Health Centre III being well equipped, the poor road network
to the facility has left it underutilized.
State Minister for Karamoja, Florence Nambozo
blamed the technical officials for being dishonest and lacking commitment.
Budadiri West MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi directed
the district team to provide the road plan and project contract for the
facility to facilitate a value-for-money audit. Nandala called for vigilance by
the residents during project implementation to ensure accountability.
