Asha Nabulo Mafabi a former candidate
for the Sironko District Woman Parliamentary position has lost two key aides to
her opponent, Florence Nambozo Mayoga.
Nambozo is the State Minister for Karamoja and
also the Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament.
The two aides are Abdu Magombe and Alex Guga Nabende.
In an interview Abdu Magombe says he does not regret defecting to Minister
Florence Nambozo’s camp. According to Magombe, the opportunity to work with a
leader like Nambozo to help in improving the lives of the people of Sironko
could not be turned town. Magombe also claims the reality on ground favors
Minister Nambozo as opposed to the NRM party flag bearer Asha Nabulo Mafabi.
Another defector Alex Guga Nabende says there
is need for the people of Sironko to continue supporting Florence Nambozo for
the position of Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament in the 2026 general
elections.
But Ali Madoi a political strategist for Asha
Nabulo Mafabi accuses the two defectors of being greedy and only looking out
for money from politicians. He says Asha Nabulo Mafabi’s support to Magombe and
Guga to help them settle their financial burdens was in vain. Madoi has given
assurances that the defections will not affect Asha Nabulo in her quest to
become the next Woman Member of Parliament for Sironko District.
In March this year,
some aides allied to Minister Florence Nambozo led by Sironko Town Council
Councilor Dison Balayo and Gimei Clyan defected to Asha Nabulo’s Camp.
