Authorities
at Bumbo Health Centre III in Namisindwa District are concerned over the
increasing malaria cases being registered.
David Mupuya the in-charge, Bumbo Health Centre
III says that last month alone, they registered 413 malaria cases. Speaking at
a general cleanup exercise organized in Bumbo town council, Mupuya attributed
the high malaria cases to poor waste management which has led to creation of
breeding areas for mosquitoes.
Mupuya also blamed the high malaria cases to people
not sleeping under treated mosquito nets
Another sanitation problem identified is the
absence of public toilets. Mariam Buteme the health inspector for Bumbo town
council most people now practice open defecation putting the area at risk of
sanitation related diseases.
Jackson Wakweika the Namisindwa LCV Chairperson
who joined the cleanup exercise said the District would construct a public
toilet in Bumbo Town council in the coming financial year 2024/2025.
