The Maternity ward at Muyembe Health Centre IV in Bulambuli District is grappling with a problem of inadequate beds for mothers that opt to deliver from the health facility.

Sister Chelangat Caroline, the In-charge, Maternity ward at Muyembe Health Centre IV says that they only have 24 beds and yet the ward has a bed capacity of 50.
According to Chelangat, with the high number of mothers from Sebei, Teso and Bugisu Sub regions that flock the facility, many mothers sleep on the floor due to the inadequate number of beds. She says that sleeping on the floor makes mothers susceptible to infections.
Chelangat said this while receiving an assortment of curtains that were donated to the maternity ward by the Bulambuli District Woman Member of Parliament-elect, Sarah Nambozo Wekomba. Chelangat said that the curtains would help in giving privacy to mothers at the maternity ward.
Sarah Nambozo Wekomba the Bulambuli District Woman MP-elect says that as per the government policy, there should be a hospital in every District. Wekomba says that among her priorities in the coming term of office is the elevation of Muyembe Health Centre IV to a District Hospital.
She says that the health facility grapples with several constraints like inadequate drugs, low staffing levels and lack of personal protective equipment. Wekomba says the problems have been occasioned by the high number of patients that seek services at the facility.
