Close to 600 people in Sironko District have received eye
treatment courtesy of the Mafabi Asha Nabulo Foundation.
In the latest round of
treatment, 20 people underwent cataract surgery at Nile International Hospital
in Jinja. A cataract
is a cloudy area in the lens of your eye (the clear part of the eye
that helps to focus light).
Francis
Wagidoso from Budadiri Town council says that they underwent the cataract
surgeries and are now in good health. Wagidoso applauds Mafabi Asha Nabulo the
Director Mafabi Asha Nabulo Foundation for facilitating the surgeries. Wagidoso
says without Nabulo’s support, they could not afford the costs for eye surgery.
Jimmy
Musoli and Zaituna Wanyenze from Kalawa and Bukiyi are the other people who underwent
cataract surgery. They say that despite having cataract issues, they were
unable to foot their medical bills. The two say the generosity and motherly
love extended by Mafabi Asha Nabulo is characteristic of a good leader.
Abdu
Magombe a coordinator at the Mafabi Asha Nabulo Foundation says that it is
rewarding for the people who have undergone surgery to recover their eye sight.
Magombe says that a number of people have been treated since 2018.
Cataracts
are considered an inevitable part of aging and are widespread among people ages
55 years and older. Half of most Ugandans have cataracts—or have had cataract
surgery—by age 80.Cataract is the leading cause of blindness globally.
