A mother in Busano Sub County in Mbale District last night delivered a baby on bare ground at a health center.
The mother after developing labor pain sought medical attention at Busano Health Centre III in Busano Sub County. There was however no midwife to attend to the mother and had no option but to deliver on bare ground near the health unit.
Katami Bessie the female councilor representing Busano at Mbale District Local Government Council says that two other mothers experienced labor pains last night and went for further management found no health worker at the facility. According to Katami, one of the health workers who was meant to be on night duty was involved in an accident and requested a colleague to take over. The colleague however did not also turn up at the facility.
Mbale Resident District Commissioner Asumin Nasike accuses health workers of being negligent despite government increasing their salaries. According to Nasike, she has summoned the concerned health workers at the facility for an explanation on the matter.
