Health workers in Sironko District have been accused of extortion.
Buwasa Health Centre IV in Buwasa Sub County, Budadiri Health Centre IV in Budadiri town council and Buwalasi Health Centre III have been identified as the most affected when it comes to extortion by health workers.
Speaking at a quarterly review meeting for Buwasa Health Centre IV, Paul Wakoko the Sironko District Health Officer said that most people are now afraid of seeking medical care at government health facilities because of the rampant extortion by health workers. According to Wakoko, health workers ask for money ranging from 200,00- 500,000 shillings for each patient that requires surgery.
Godfrey Wamaniala, the Sironko Assistant Chief Administrative Officer says that three cases of extortion from Buwasa Health Centre IV and two from Budadiri Health Centre IV have been reported to the District.
Herbert Musika the secretary for gender asked the District Health Officer and Chief Administrative Officer to dismiss those found culpable in order to stem the vice.
