A section of residents in Nauyo/Bugema town council have
decried the high rate of cannabis (weed) consumption by young people in the area.

Anthony Wabwire a resident of Wakhwaba village
says that many young people are wasting their valuable time consuming weed.
Wabwire blames parents for abandoning their children with no proper counselling
and guidance.
He says that there is need for young people to
engage in economic activities that can lead to their economic empowerment.
Meresi Nambuya another resident says that apart
from smoking weed, young people also engage in gambling under the guise of
passing time. Nambuya says that despite the government’s need to support the
young people, parents also need to provide startup capital to their
enterprising children.
But Richard Wamono a young man in Nauyo says
that there is nothing wrong with taking weed. According to Wamono, consuming
weed is just like taking any other food or drink. He says one can even engage
in gainful employment while consuming weed.
