John Wafula the LCIII chairperson for Bukokho Sub County in Namisindwa District has warned against acts of stigma directed at people living with HIV/AIDS.
The warning follows an incident in Kirongo village, Bumulingi parish, Bukokho Sub County where one of the residents who was reportedly living with HIV committed suicide after being rejected by the wife.
Robert Mukholi one of the residents says the deceased had lived with the virus for the last three years and was on anti-retroviral treatment. Mukholi says the deceased’s wife left accusing him of infecting her with HIV.
Moses Wetondo the LCI chairperson for Kirongo village says several attempts by the deceased to have the wife return were futile. Wetondo says this could have prompted the decision to commit suicide.
