Authorities
in Bulambuli District have asked government to upgrade Muyembe Health Centre IV
to a District Hospital citing the overwhelming population that flocks the
facility.
This call was made on Monday at the
handover of medical equipment to Muyembe Health Centre IV in Bulambuli Town
Council in Bulambuli District. The equipment worth 45 million shillings includes;
an ultrasound scanner, two delivery examination beds, operation lamp,
ultrasound printer and ultra sound mobile trolley. They were donated by the NRM
flag bearer for the Bulambuli District Woman Parliamentary position, Sarah
Nambozo Wekomba.
Speaking at the handover, Dr. Kapsindet
Sam the Muyembe Health Centre IV in-charge said the fact that the facility
serves close to 30,000 people from the Districts of Amudat, Nakapiripirit,
Bukwo, Kween, Kapchorwa, Sironko, Bukedea and Bulambuli, there is huge pressure
on the services and the infrastructure which necessitates upgrading it to a
District Hospital.
According to Dr. Kapsindet, in the last
three months, the outpatient department registered around 5,942 patients, while
the inpatient department with a bed capacity of 32 for adults and 10 for
children, they admitted 2,141 patients with most of them sleeping on the floor.
In the maternity ward, 6,000 mothers delivered at the facility while close to
2,000 mothers attended antenatal care in the last three months.
On the provision of equipment including an
ultra sound scanner which has been lacking at the health unit, Dr. Kapsindet
said pregnant mothers who are supposed to do a minimum of three ultra sound
scans will now be saved from the costs they have been incurring to access the service
from private facilities.
Emmanuel Biara Wepukhulu the NRM flag
bearer for Bulambuli County explained that President Yoweri Museveni in 2016 promised
to actualize the upgrade of the facility but the matter went silent. According
to Wepukhulu, they intend to remind President Museveni about the pledge when he
visits Bulambuli District on his campaign trail in November.
Sarah Nambozo Wekomba the NRM flag bearer
for Bulambuli District Woman Parliamentary position said there was need to
supplement government effort in health service delivery by donating essential
equipment to the health facility. Wekomba said pregnant mothers will now access
free ultra sound scanning services.
