Health
experts are concerned with the high cases of eye infections in Pallisa
District.
Mercy Atim, an ophthalmologist at Pallisa general
hospital says many patients have eye conditions like cataracts, short and long
sightedness and general blindness.
According to Atim despite the high cases of eye
infections, the hospital lacks the capacity to handle them. She says the
hospital has only one ophthalmologist who handles the entire Bukedi Sub-region.
Because of this shortfall, Humanity First Uganda
has organized an eye camp with more specialists brought to handle more than one
thousand eye patients.
The director gift of sight at Humanity First Uganda, Abdul Kiwanuka has called for more ophthalmologists to be recruited in Bukedi Sub-region so as to handle the ever increasing cases of eye infections.
