
Centre
for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD) is implementing a UGX 3.4
billion project aimed at supporting Uganda’s response to HIV and Tuberculosis
reduction strategy.
The two-year project will be implemented in 30 Districts with
Mbale District identified as one of the beneficiaries. Speaking at an inception
meeting for Mbale District on Monday, Sarah Akampurira the Programme
Coordinator for Community Empowerment at CEHURD said that the components of the
project include; support towards community based organizations and holding of
mobile legal clinics for people living with HIV to increase increasing access
to justice.
Robert Wandwasi the Mbale District HIV Focal Person says the
partnership with CEHURD will help in reducing HIV infections and ensure that
those found positive are enrolled on treatment.
Mbale Deputy Resident District Commissioner Naomi Nakawala has
welcomed the project saying it will empower communities in accessing justice
with the growing cases of land grabbing.
