Cure Children’s Hospital in Mbale City needs 600 million shillings to treat children with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Many babies born with spina bifida get hydrocephalus (often called water on the brain). This means that there is extra fluid in and around the brain. The extra fluid can cause the spaces in the brain, called ventricles, to become too large and the head can swell.

Speaking at a press briefing, Tim Erickson the Cure Hospital Executive Director said that in a bid to raise the money, they have organized a marathon slated for 21st October, 2023.

Erickson says they are partnering with non-government organizations, the business community in Mbale City and the general public to support the cause.

Peter Wanyera a medical officer at Bufumbo health center III asked health service providers to always refer children with spina bifida and hydrocephalus to Cure Children’s Hospital for management.
