More than 100 clearing agents at Lwakhakha in Namisindwa District want their counterparts who hail from Malaba barred from operating at Lwakhakha border post.
The Lwakhakha based clearing agents accuse their counterparts from Malaba of being behind the increased criminality and discrimination in line of duty. Walukano Abubaker one of the clearing agents in Lwakhakha town council says they have struggled to work hand in hand with their counterparts from Malaba. According to Walukano, the Malaba clearing agents accuse them of hatching plans to poison them something he dismisses.
Thomas Watsala another clearing agent in Namisindwa wants the operations of the Malaba clearing agents regulated since they deliberately refused to register their group. Watsala also accuses some leaders of being compromised to favor the Malaba team.
Kisongotsi Mureefu the LCIII chairperson for Lwakhakha Town Council has dismissed the allegations saying jobs cannot be ring fenced for a particular region. Mureefu says it is absurd that the Lwakhakha clearing agents want their counterparts from Malaba out of business something he says is sectarian.
Emma Bwayo the Namisindwa District Male Youth Councillor has called for an accommodative approach since Lwakhakha town council is a centre of business for everyone.
