Elgon Junior School in Mutufu town council, Sironko District has installed closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance and fire extinguishers to avert any future fire outbreak.

A fire that broke out at the school last month, burnt a boy’s dormitory and property like books, and clothes were destroyed. There was however no death and no injuries were registered.

Ivan Wagidoso the school director says the fire outbreak was a lesson and they had to improve security at the school. Wagidoso says they have now installed CCTV cameras and fire extinguishers. Wagidoso says that they have also fenced the school and increased the number of guards. He suspects the fire was started by people with ill intentions and tightening security is justified.

In bid to support the school, Asha Nabulo Mafabi the NRM flag bearer for the Sironko District Woman Parliamentary position has handed over mattresses, clothes and mosquito nets valued at 100 million shillings. Nabulo asked the school authorities to give the children whose property was destroyed in the inferno.
