Mbale City Mayor Cassim Namugali has asked
all stakeholders in the food value chain to champion the fight against unsafe
food.
Namugali sounded the call at a two-day
training on using a food
system to enable Mbale City dwellers access healthy, nutritious and sustainable
food at Mbale Court’s View Hotel.
The training organized by Rikolto Great Lakes
in collaboration with Mbale City, Food Rights Alliance and Global Consumer Center was attended by selected
politicians, technical staff, farmers, media and market leaders in Mbale City.
According
to Namugali, a lot of money is spent in hospitals as a result of consuming
unsafe food which can be curtailed if all stakeholders rise up.
Namugali
said that several partners are now working hand in hand with Mbale City Council
and this will transform the lives of the people.

Businda an official with Rikolto said they have formed a multi-stakeholder team
in Mbale City to bolster the fight against unsafe food in the City.
