Mbale city plans to repair all non-functional street lights gradually starting next financial year.
Speaking at a review meeting for Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program at Mbale Resort Hotel, Cassim Namugali the Mbale City Mayor said the street lights have problems of batteries, panels and some were knocked by vehicles.
This has left most residents in Mbale City questioning the state of darkness which has led to increased criminality.
In 2019, Mbale city while was still a Municipality got over 14 billion Shillings for implementation of the second phase of the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development-USMID project. Works like installing street lights, drainage and constructing new roads were undertaken.
