Rikolto in East Africa, an international network
organization in collaboration with Mbale City, Food Rights Alliance and Global
Consumer Centre will on Friday this week launch a safe food handling
competition for vendors at Mbale Central Market.
Peter Businda an agribusiness advisor with
Rikolto says that the safe food competition aims rewarding vendors who will
display safe food handling techniques at their stalls at Mbale Central market.
Businda says safe food handling by vendors also ensures that the lives of the
consumers are not at risk.
Businda adds that the vendor competition will
improve the image of Mbale Central Market as vendors will prioritize hygiene
and sanitation at their stalls. Cash rewards ranging from three hundred
thousand shillings to one million shillings will be given to top performing
vendors in safe food handling.
