Vivo Energy Uganda the licensed operator and distributor of Shell products has handed out more than 100 helmets to children at North Road Primary School in Mbale City.

Val Oketcho the Corporate Communications Manager for Vivo Energy Uganda says that the donation is part of their corporate social responsibility where they prioritize road safety.

Oketcho says that they did a needs assessment and realized that many school going children use commercial motorcycles (boda boda) and have no helmets. He says that since 2019, they have donated more than 2,000 helmets to children in public schools across Uganda.

Michael Kananura the Community liaisons officer for the directorate of traffic and road safety says that with most school going children using boda boda, it is important that they extend road safety training to schools.

Juliet Wakoli the head teacher North Road Primary School has welcomed the donation and urged parents to be at the forefront of promoting road safety. Wakoli has asked parents to provide helmets to their school going children.
