More than 100 traders operating along Cathedral Avenue in Industrial City Division in Mbale City are stranded after their structures were demolished by the City authorities.

Mbale City Council authorities yesterday demolished structures next to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) saying they were illegal. City Council demolished them to pave way for the construction of a drainage system.

Agnes Nasaga and Samuel Wagoli are some of the affected traders who claim they have nowhere to go. The two says they have been renting the structures without knowledge that they are illegal.

Nathan Wamembo another victim has asked the City authorities to allocate them lockups in Mbale Central Market to ease their work.

James Kutosi the Mbale City Communications Officer says following a High Court ruling which confirmed that the land on which the structures were built belonged to the City, they had to swing into action.
