A section of councillors at Mbale District Local Government Council want an explanation on the circumstances under which District land was handed out to Harshton Junior School in Maluku ward, Industrial City Division in Mbale City.
Led by Bungokho Sub County Councillor, Tonny Wamagale, they say the land upon which Harshton Junior School sits might have been sold dubiously by some District officials without acknowledgment of council.
But Tom Musungu the Mbale district information officer has dismissed the allegations saying Harshton Junior School only requested to rent the land for use as a playground. Musungu says the school pays 250,000 shillings in rent fees per month to the District.
Mohamed Mafabi the Mbale district LCV chairperson has scoffed at the councillors saying some of those demanding an explanation were behind the approval of the plan to rent out the land.
