Mbale City authorities have a two week’s ultimatum to take stock of all non-government organizations with in their jurisdiction.


John Rex Achilla the Mbale Resident City Commissioner says that he has received numerous complaints about the conduct of some NGOs and action needs to be taken.

According to Achilla, it appears Mbale City is filled with numerous brief case NGOs that are not adding any value to the community. As a result, Achilla has issued a two weeks’ ultimatum to authorities of Mbale City Council to carry out an audit of all the NGOs and present a report for urgent action.

Samuel Busiku Khaukha an agricultural officer at Industrial City Division in Mbale City says that there are many organizations with no clearly defined work. Busiku suspects that such NGOs might be engaging in the promotion of bad practices like homosexuality.

Catherine Nabulwala an assistant town clerk says that they had an interface with Bugisu NGO Forum, an umbrella of all NGOs with the aim of meeting all the stakeholders in the NGO world in Mbale. Nabulwala promises to follow up and ensure the NGO work is streamlined.
