Minister for the Elderly Dominic Gidudu Mafabi has said that government’s parish development model programme will support manufacturers with raw materials.

Mafabi says that 5trillion shillings has been pumped into the parish development model in a bid to boost production and end poverty amongst 39% of Ugandans not in the money economy.

Speaking at the official launch of the 12th Eastern Uganda Trade Fair being held at Mbale Secondary School Grounds in Mbale City, Minister Gidudu said the government’s plan of promoting agriculture through the parish development model will solve the issue of raw materials for the manufacturers.

Minister Gidudu underscored the need for Ugandans to get into the money economy so as to contribute to production, taxes and creation of jobs.

Deo Kayemba the Uganda Manufacturers Association(UMA) Chairman welcomed the parish development model saying if well handled, it will supplement the production value chain. Kayemba said farmers will be able to supply raw materials to manufacturers for value addition.

John Rex Achilla the Mbale Resident City Commissioner pledged to support the government’s plans of improving the economic wellbeing of Ugandans and the fight against corruption.

The weeklong Eastern Uganda Trade Fair organized by the Uganda Manufacturers Association is being held under the theme: ‘Celebrating Local Manufacturing Excellence.’
