USMID Project Completion Deadline in Mbale City not Feasible

The 31, December 2023 deadline for completion of roads under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project in Mbale City will not be met.


Dott Services, the company charged with working on the roads has reportedly been challenged with issues of construction on sewer lines and therefore delaying the actual construction of the roads. At Mbale Taxi Park, most of the buildings were erected on sewer lines and the owners secured permits from the Mbale City Council authorities. This complicates a plan to demolish the buildings and improve road infrastructure. 

Musa Masaba a taxi driver accuses the Mbale City authorities for the mess saying approving construction on sewer lines led to 

John Madanda a member of the Mbale City Development Forum says they have no choice but to demolish some structures to pave way for a proper sewerage line.

James Kutosi the Mbale city Public Relations Officer admits the road works might not be completed in the agreed timeframe. Kutosi says the bureaucracy at the start of the project explains the failure to complete the works in time.
