Kween district authorities and Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA have raised a red flag against the theft of road signs on the newly built Kapchorwa Suam Road.

The 77km road stretches from Kapchorwa Municipality to Suam Border post in Bukwo district before connecting to Kenya. The road is being constructed by Chinese firm, China civil Construction Company limited at Shillings 143.7 billion and being financed by the African Development Bank.

Hope Atuhaire, the Kween District Resident District Commissioner, says some thugs have already stolen the road signs, and some of the machinery spare parts used for the construction of the road.
She has however cautioned the community to desist from such acts of signage theft so as to allow the successful completion of the construction project.

Ronita Olobo, an official of China Civil Construction Company says that the stealing of the signage is giving the contractor a hard time to replace.

Tina Nakombe, the Mbale UNRA Station Manager says, the vandalism of the signage will likely delay the completion works. She however asked the contractors and security to forge a way forward on how the vandalism can be reduced.
