Sironko Parish Chiefs On the Spot for Extortion

Parish chiefs in Sironko District are on the spot for alleged extortion of money from parish development model (PDM) beneficiaries.


The parish chiefs reportedly pick money from beneficiaries before registering them into the PDM programme.

This was revealed by LCIII Chairpersons in Sironko District at a consultative meeting convened by Budadiri East legislator Isaiah Sasaga. The consultative meeting was held at St. Catherine Vocational Institute. The LCIII Chairpersons told MP Sasaga that many beneficiaries have had to part with money ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 shillings each. The beneficiaries are reportedly told that the money is for internet costs and purchase of laptops to ease the work of the parish chiefs.

Hebert Magomu the LCIII chairperson for Buhugu Sub County the conduct of the parish chiefs is sabotaging the implementation of the parish development model. 

Patrick Wamugoda and Haruna Gaboba the LCIII Chairpersons of Busita and Namaguli Sub Counties have want punitive action taken against parish chiefs found culpable.

Isaiah Sasaga the Budadiri East legislator has condemned the conduct by parish chiefs asking the Sironko District authorities to act.

Denis Ephraim Balwaniregha the Sironko Resident District Commissioner has asked the LCIIIs to report errant parish chiefs.
