This call was made by Mbale District Commercial Officer Nabutuwa Janet at the Lower Central Zone meeting organized by Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU).

According to Nabutuwa, for farmers to get quality coffee, it is important to take care of the crop right from the garden. Nabutuwa says that farmers need to carry out proper pruning and effectively use fertilizers and replace old coffee plants. She has asked coffee farmers to always pick ripe berries for processing and wash and dry the coffee to ensure quality coffee is supplied to Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU)

In a related development, Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) board chairperson Nathan Nandala Mafabi says the union will employ 68 secretary managers to help in the collection of coffee from farmers. Nandala while addressing coffee farmers from the Lower Central Zone explained that the secretary managers will be based at growers’ societies so that farmers don’t take coffee to their competitors.
