Residents in the sub counties of Bukhaweka, Buwabwala and Bukhaweka town council in Namisindwa District want the construction of bridges suspended until compensation of the project affected people is done.

Government allocated 20 billion shillings towards the construction of five bridges of Nabukhuya, Kharakara, Nametsi Meru, Khamitsaru and Tsakhana in Namisindwa District.

Emma Nakhaima, a resident Bukhaweka neighboring Nabukhuya bridge says his land was valued by government and promises of compensation were made before works could start. Nakhaima says he was surprised to see works commence without being compensated.

Samuel Wanda from Buwabwala Sub County wants the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to suspend the works until all the project affected people are fully compensated.

Sharp Tumwine, an official with UNRA says they are in the process of compensating 200 people affected by the project. Tumwine says they decided to start works on the bridges as they wait for compensation to take off.
