Media Asked to Report Accurately on Nuclear Energy Applications.

The Atomic Energy Council (AEC) has asked media practitioners to accurately report on nuclear energy applications with a view of improving service delivery in the various sectors.

This call was made by the Chief Executive Officer of the Atomic Energy Council Noah Deogracious Luwalira while opening the Eastern regional media sensitization workshop on the regulation of nuclear energy applications in Uganda.

The workshop at Mbale Courts View Hotel in Mbale City was held under the theme: Accurate Reporting On Nuclear Energy Applications For A Better Future.

According to Luwalira, peaceful application of ionizing radiation in Uganda is important in education, industries, medicine, agriculture and research. Luwalira says the ionizing applications help in the production of electricity and diagnosis and treatment of diseases like cancer.

He said that stakeholders like the media, importers and exporters of radiation sources, local governments, must be sensitized about the need to have a safe operating environment for nuclear energy applications.

Luwalira said the media needs to help the society by clearing all the misconceptions about nuclear energy through informed and balanced reporting.
