Failures of Mathematics and English in Namisindwa District are being turned away from the ongoing recruitment exercise for the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).

Applicants must be Ugandans, pass medical tests and in possession of Ordinary Level Certificate with credits in Mathematics and English. The applicants must also be adults aged between 18-22 years.

Hajji Imran Muluga the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner says the recruitment exercise which started on Monday has seen many applicants sent away for lack of requisite academic qualifications. Muluga says majority of those being turned away failed Mathematics and English ordinary level.

John Musila the Bubulo East Member of Parliament says Namisindwa is one of poor performing Districts at Uganda Certificate of Education level. Musila says that the requirement for applicants to have scored credits in Mathematics and English might leave out many young people with a dream of joining the army.
