A former contestant for the position of councilor representing Buteza
Sub County at Sironko District Local Government is being held on allegations of
conning unsuspecting people with promises of securing for them jobs abroad.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region Police
Spokesman identifies the suspect as Abdu Magombe.
According to Taitika, the suspect reportedly
picked money from people promising to secure them jobs in the Middle East.
Taitika says Magombe was an agent of Potential Recruitment Agency in Bugisu
Sub-region.
Taitika says that
a number of people waited to be flown to the Middle East to start work in vain.
He says the victims also allege that attempts to follow up with Magombe as his
known mobile phones went off. This prompted the victims to report the matter to
Police leading to his arrest.
Azina Gimba,
one of the victims from Budaka District claims that she paid Magombe 1.8
million shillings last year in July but has never been to flown to the Middle
East as promised. According to Gimba, the decision by Magombe not to fulfil the
agreed position made her notify Police.
