Namisindwa leaders urged to support Environmental change projects

Leaders in Namisindwa district have been urged to embrace and support Environmental change projects that are aimed at conserving the Environment so as to fight climate change that is the major challenge in the district.


This call was made by Namara Juliet Solome the Deputy Resident district commissioner of Namisindwa during monitoring of the World Bank funded project that is implemented by Aid Environment in partnership with the ministry of water and Environment.

The project is aimed at restoring riverbanks, soil and water conservation through tree growing in Bubutu T/c, Magale and Bumoni sub-counties in Namisindwa.

Namara, stresses that if leaders join efforts and embrace such projects, it will reduce floods and landslides that are rampant in the district.

Tumuhaire Raymond the Project Manager- Lwakhakha Sub Catchment Project says the project is aimed at restoring riverbanks and soil conservation that will lead to high production in farming. 

Mwangale Michael the District forestry officer of Namisindwa says poor farming methods practiced by farmers and deforestation are the major causes of floods and landslides in the District.

He called upon residents to embrace the project through tree growing to prevent landslides. /

Bwayo Emma the Namisindwa District Male Youth Councillor asked for honestly and total commitment from project managers for the project to succeed. He reveals that there are many questions from residents over the project and their concerns must be addressed for purposes of acceptability and ownership. 

He says hilly parts of the District should be included on the project to counter effects of climate change.
