A monitoring exercise by the Namisindwa Assistant Resident District Commissioner Bosco Nabbonge has revealed disturbing findings on the Shs. 1.1 billion Bumbo-Bumwali-Matua road rehabilitation project.

According to Nabbonge, with Shs. 1.1 billion shillings allocated to the 9.8km road project, there is visible value for money. Nabbonge found casual workers fixing broken culverts around Bumwalye Bridge without proper equipment. The workers were reportedly been instructed to manually crush stones with their hands instead of using machines.

Nabbonge says that if such practices continue, taxpayers money risks being put to waste. He urged the engineers to use standard culverts that are durable. He also explains that the casual workers reported that they are yet to be paid; a reason works have slowed down.

Wamundu John a resident of Bumwalye fears that the project might not be completed in the six-month timeframe.

Masayi Peter, the Chairperson of the works and technical committee of the Council, expressed frustration citing cases of shoddy work on several roads.

Namisindwa District Chairperson Jackson Wakweika said that heavy rains have delayed the works on the roads.
