Authorities at Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) have warned against cases of hooliganism in the ongoing campaigns ahead of the student’s guild elections this Saturday.

Isabirye Surakh and Ssebunya Shafic are battling for the position of guild president while Hafsa Nabakwana and Nabirye Aisha are vying for the position of deputy guild presidents. Speaking at a presidential debate organized at IUIU Mbale Campus, the candidates fronted promoting sanitation and working towards improving water supply in the hostels as the challenges they intend to tackle once elected into office.

Siraje Mukwana the University Coordinator says that despite allowing students to compete for student leadership positions, respect for one another and peaceful coexistence is important. He says that they don’t tolerate hooliganism during the elections.

The IUIU electoral commission chairperson Naduku Gast says that the elections will be conducted digitally with students expected to vote their preferred candidates through an online generated system.
