Police
Officers in Mbale City are being accused of engaging in sexual acts with
commercial sex workers during their routine operations.
This was revealed at an HIV stakeholders meeting organized by
Most At Risk Populations Initiative (MARPI) at Rocy Hotel in Mbale City.
Robert Wandwasi the Mbale HIV Focal Person says they have
realized that some police officers usually harass commercial sex workers during
night operations and end up being offered free sex in return. Wandwasi says
such police officers are at risk of acquiring HIV because they don’t use
condoms.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region Police Spokesman did not
confirm or deny the allegations against their officers saying they will
investigate the matter.
