Mufti Encourages Unwavering Loyalty to UMSC Amidst Challenges

His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has urged Muslims to remain steadfast in their loyalty to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) despite any obstacles, emphasizing that its foundation rests on unity. He delivered this message during the memorial prayers - Duwah, organized by the family of the late Sheikh Badru Ddamulira, the former county Sheikh of Twale Mawokota B, Greater Mpigi Muslim District, encompassing Mpigi, Butambala, and Gomba districts.

The function was held at the deceased family home at Lwajinja village, Kituntu County in  Mpigi district on Sunday May 12th 2024. Mufti Mubaje paid tribute to Sheikh Ddamulira, who dedicated 37 years of his life to serving Islam as a county Sheikh. He urged Muslim congregants, to emulate the deceased's loyalty to UMSC. Quoting the Holy Qur'an, Mufti Mubaje urged his audience to lead righteous lives and uphold truthfulness.

Prof. Dr. Badru Kiggundu, the former Electoral Commission chairperson, commended Mufti Mubaje's administration for its achievements within UMSC. Prof. Kiggundu recounted Mufti's decision to appoint him as Chairman of the National Mosque Construction Committee, a challenging role undertaken "without any foreseen monetary benefits.”

He also highlighted Mufti's role as Chairman of the UMSC-based Islamic Call University College (ICUC), urging Muslims to support it wholeheartedly. Mufti Mubaje concluded by urging all Ugandans to participate in the ongoing census and encouraging Muslims to access government-designed Parish Development Model funds for poverty alleviation, emphasizing its accessibility. He also stressed the importance of Muslim parents providing both religious and secular education to their children.

Additional speeches were delivered by Sheikh Abdu-Karim Abdallah Katamba, Director of Halal, as the guest preacher, Sheikh Juma Mawejje Kabanda, Regional Assistant to the Mufti for West Buganda, and Sheikh Muhammad Idd Kabuye, the host Kadhi, who provided updates on Islamic activities in the region and the district, respectively.

Regarding the deceased's family, Sheikh Swaib Bwanika Kasonso, an employee at the Bank of Uganda, announced Sheikh Abbas Kasekende as the heir of the late Sheikh Ddamulira. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Sheikh Imran Ssali, Secretary for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Badru Uzairu Wasajja Kiruuta, Kadhi of Masaka, along with other sheikhs, local leaders, and cultural figures.
