Twenty seven extension workers in Namisindwa District have been summoned on allegations of forging signatures.

Last year towards Christmas, twenty seven extension workers from different sub counties wrote and signed a letter seeking for permission to peacefully demonstrate over delayed payment of their salaries for two months. In the letter, the extension workers accused the Namisindwa District Authorities of delaying to clear their November and December salaries.

Now Fredrick Bangu the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner says some unscrupulous people might have forged the signatures of the extension workers with a view of tarnishing their image. He says that after receiving a copy of the purported letter, he has followed up with the extension workers but all deny neither authoring nor signing it.

It is on this background that Bangu says they have now summoned the extension workers to record statements to enable them prefer charges of impersonation and forgery against those behind the plan.

But Emma Bwayo the Namisindwa district youth council says the decision to summon the extension workers is a threat to their right. Bwayo says the authorities should instead work out modalities of clearing outstanding salaries of the extension workers.
