Mbale Police are investigating two separate incidents in which two students are suspected to have committed suicide.
On Friday last week, Alex Wadada aged 23 and a second year student at Mount Elgon School of Nursing and Midwifery in Mbale City was found after he had committed suicide by hanging in the institution toilet.
Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region Police Spokesman says Wadada’s body was found by one of the students who had gone to clean the toilet. Taitika says a postmortem conducted confirms that the student took his life. He says the deceased was handed over to his family for burial.
Relatedly, 17-year-old Emmanuel Kimayo of Busiu Secondary School in Mbale District was found dead in his parents’ home. It is alleged that after being cautioned by his mother Serina Akiding on the need to stop taking opium, Kimayo decided to hang himself using an electric wire. This brings to four, the number of students who have committed suicide in Elgon region since February this year.
