Police says tomorrow’s planned coronation of John Amlam Wagabyalire as the Bamasaba cultural leader will not go ahead.

Masaba cultural institution had set Saturday 18th March as coronation day for John Amlam Wagabyalire as the Umukuka of the Bamasaba. The function was slated to take place at Mutoto Cultural site.

Elgon Region Police Spokesman Rogers Taitika says they have not cleared the coronation and it will not take place. Taitika says Police cannot allow the coronation of Wagabyalire without being gazzeted by government. He says with another faction led by Jude Mike Mudoma claiming the same throne, there is no way a parallel coronation can go ahead tomorrow.

Wilson Wedayila from the Mudoma led faction says no coronation can take place unless government make a pronouncement on the rightful cultural leader of the Bamasaba.

But Wilson Budaka a personal secretary to Amlam Wagabyalire says the coronation ceremony will go ahead as planned. Budaka confirms they have received a letter from police stopping the coronation but they are ready to defy.
