Budadiri
West Member of Parliament Nathan Nandala Mafabi has announced a campaign aimed
at fighting gambling and early drinking among idle youth in rural communities.
Nandala announced this at a press briefing at
Mountain Inn in Mbale City on Friday. He was delivering his New Year’s message.
According to Nandala, following successful
operations against cattle theft in Sironko District last year, there is need to
tackle the challenges of early drinking and gambling which is fuelling petty
theft in villages. He warned that individuals engaging such activities face
arrest and imprisonment.
Nandala also cautioned voters against putting
pressure on their leaders saying many of them are financially constrained; a
reason many were unable to celebrate Christmas with their constituents.
Rev. Jackson Magombe, the Director of Operations
and Communications in the Office of the MP for Budadiri West, announced that they
would continue with activities like hernia surgeries, provision of scholarships,
and mobilizing farmers for the new planting season.
