Opposition Chief Whip John Baptist Nambeshe says last week’s changes announced by the National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine had tribal and regional imbalances.

The National Unity Platform replaced Mathias Mpuuga with Joel Ssenyonyi as the leader of the opposition in Parliament. Mpuuga and Ssenyonyi are from Central Uganda.

John Baptist Nambeshe was retained as the opposition chief whip. Nambeshe says that the changes where characterized by tribal, regional and gender imbalances.

He says that with only two members of Parliament from NUP in Eastern Uganda, one of them should have been selected as the leader of opposition. Nambeshe is the Manjiya County Member Of Parliament (Bududa) while Manjeri Kyebakutika is the Jinja City Women MP.

He says the NUP should have borrowed a leaf from fellow opposition political party the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) which considered aspects of regional balance when selecting people for the position of leader of oppos  ition.
