Over 100 referees and umpires prep for forthcoming secondary schools games.

Over 100 referees and umpires have been trained ahead of the forthcoming secondary school games.


 


The one-week training which ended today was held at Mbale Secondary School in Mbale City.

 

Speaking at end of the training Isaiah Sasaga the chairperson, Bugisu Secondary School Sports Association said it was important to equip referees and umpires with the latest skills and knowledge in match officiating. Sasaga says that they have had competence issues with some match officials and there was need to empower them.

 

Moses Buyela the head teacher Mbale Secondary School says that following the training, cases of unprofessional match officiating will be curtailed. Buyela warned the referees and umpires against corruption tendencies saying it taints the image of their profession.

 

Phiona Nakayenze one of the trainees from Sionko Parents Secondary School pledged to use the knowledge acquired to improve her work as an umpire.
