The National Council of Sports in Uganda (NCS) has called on all districts in Lango Sub-region to provide at least 11 acres of land each for the establishment of sporting facilities.

This move is aimed at promoting and developing sporting activities in the region.

Lango Sub-region comprises nine districts, including Lira, Dokolo, Apac, Kole, Alebtong, Oyam, Otuke, Alebtong, and Kwania, as well as Lira City. Currently, the sub-region has only one stadium, Akii-Bua, which is yet to be constructed by the government.

The NCS contends that without available land, they cannot establish any sporting grounds, let alone source funding for their development. The council is therefore requesting the districts to provide titled land that is properly mapped out and in the required size.

Ambrose Tashobya, the Chairperson of NCS, believes that Lango Sub-region is the land of champions. He noted that urban centers are developing with a growing population without adequate recreation facilities.
