Budadiri
West Member of Parliament Nathan Nandala Mafabi has called for the arrest of
all MPs on the Legal & Parliamentary Affairs Committee, for conspicuously
approving the Shs1.7Bn Service Award given to the four Commissioners.
The four include former leader of opposition,
Mathias Mpuuga, Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central), Esther Afoyochan (Zombo
Woman) and Prossy Mbabazi (Rubanda Woman).
Nandala made the remarks while addressing
journalists after signing the censure motion. Nandala says that for the past 23
years he has been at Parliament, no Commissioner has ever been paid any service
award. Nandala has also called for the refund of the Shs1.7Bn service award by
the four commissioners.
He says that MPs on the Legal Committee should be
arrested like their counterparts on the Budget Committee that are currently
under Police custody for running a corruption racket in Parliament.
In a related
development,
three legislators are in Police custody for questioning regarding corruption allegations
involving the Ministry of Finance and Parliament.
The three include Yusuf Mutembuli, MP for Bunyole
East in Butaleja District and deputy chair of Parliament’s Legal Committee,
Lwengo District Woman MP Cissy Namujju and Busiki MP Paul Akamba. The homes of
the three detained legislators are also being searched for evidence in the
corruption investigation.
