Bisikwa Sarah the
Manafwa District Environment Officer says that trees help in controlling soil
erosion especially in mountainous areas.
Bisikwa said this while
meeting nursery bed operators at Bumaena station in Bukiende sub county, Mbale
District. This was at the launch of the new bio-degradable potting bags by
Mount Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise. These will replace polythene bags which
are considered unfriendly to the environment.
Nakayenze Anna the Mbale
District Environment Officer urged farmers to plant indigenous tree species
which protect and add value to the soil.
