Leaders in South
Karamoja districts have asked the government to step up security
following the resurgence of cross-district cattle raids.
The districts comprising Nabilatuk, Nakapiripirit,
Amudat, Napak, and Moroto have seen a spate of cattle theft and murders in the
recent past.
The recurring cattle raids are being blamed on revenge
attacks and collaborators among the different clusters. They have been two
separate clashes between the Pian of Nabilatuk, Matheniko from Moroto, and
Pokot of Amudat district in the last two weeks.
The recent attack occurred in Nakala grazing
ground in Nabilatuk district where Pokot and Tepeth warriors clashed with the
Matheniko and Pian warriors following the theft of an estimated 500 cows from a
Pokot Kraal in Nakonyen. The fight started at 9:00 pm and went on until 3:00 pm
the next day leaving an unspecified number of warriors dead.
Paul Lokol, the LCV chairperson for Nabilatuk
district said that there is a need to disarm the Pokot pastoralists because
they have resorted to using bows and arrows to destabilize other communities.
