Authorities in Mbale City have are
to pass an ordinance on food safety.
This was
revealed at a Food Parliament organized by Food Rights Alliance (FRA) in
conjunction with Rikolto East Africa and Global Consumer Centre. The Food
Parliament was held at Mbale Courts View Hotel.
Dr. Aaron
Mulyanyuma a senior assistant town clerk who represented the Mbale City Clerk, Ambrose
Ochen at the Food Parliament said that both Industrial City and Northern City
Division will start a process of drafting an ordinance on food safety that will
then be taken up by the mother body, Mbale City. According to Mulyanyuma, an
ordinance will streamline the work of all stakeholders in the food value chain with
an aim of having a City where safe food is consumed.

Brian Wamboka the head of programmes at Food Rights Alliance (FRA) has welcomed
the plan to have an ordinance and says they will work hand in hand with Mbale
City to make it a model urban area for good food.
